Elmer Dessens allowed just 3 hits and Ryan Freel had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as
the Chicago Rastafarians topped the Dart Weasels by a score of 6 to 1 at
Minute Maid Field.
Chicago jumped out to the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs utilizing
2 base hits. After an out was recorded, David Dejesus got things going when
he stroked a single. Jason Kendall came next and he drew a walk. Jim Thome
struck out, unable to help the rally. Matt Clement then bounced one in the
dirt for a wild pitch. Damion Easley stepped into the box and doubled
knocking home two runners. The early run support proved sufficient for
Dessens(1-0) and Chicago. That was all the run support Dessens required.
Chicago banged out 8 on the afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Clement(1-3). He allowed Chicago 6 runs in 5 innings
of work. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' John Callanan
said. Dessens pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
